Media Production Technology

Media Production Technology is designed to prepare students for a career in media production and broadcasting. The program teaches students audio and visual output, writing styles for the mass media and announcing for radio and TV.  Students gain hands-on experience through campus-based programs and telecasts. 

An Associate of Applied Science degree is earned upon successful completion of the program.

Progression: To meet graduation requirements for this program, students must successfully complete the specified courses listed below with a “C” average (GPA of 2.00) or better. A grade of “C” or higher is required in each BCT/MDT course to progress in the program. 

Minimum admission requirements (in addition to general admission requirements) must include one of the following:

  • Attain a 17 composite score on the ACT;
  • Score a 245 or higher on the ACCUPLACER Reading Section and an 245 or above on the Writing Skills Section;
  • Earn a “C” or above in Intermediate English and Reading (ENG 0124) and Public Speaking (SPT 1113);
  • Complete 15 semester hours of program general education coursework with an average of “C” or above at an accredited college or university. Developmental coursework does not satisfy this requirement; and
  • Attend an orientation session with the program coordinator when all other requirements are met.


Students entering the program for the first time must contact the program coordinator prior to enrolling in any BCT/MDT course.

Students enrolled in the Media Production Technology Program must attend MCC full-time (15 or more semester credit hours).
