PHI THETA KAPPA

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is an international honor society for community and junior colleges that promotes leadership, scholarship, service, and fellowship. MCC's local chapter is Nu Upsilon, and membership is open to any student who has earned 12 semester hours toward an associate degree program at MCC and has a GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale. PTK recognizes and encourages scholarship among two-year college students, provides opportunities for leadership and service, fosters intellectual exchange, and promotes academic excellence.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • You must be enrolled in a regionally accredited institution offering an associate degree program.
  • You must have completed at least 12 hours of coursework that may be applied to an associate degree.
    • Part-time students are usually eligible for membership if they have accumulated the total number of hours used by the college to designate full-time status (usually 12 hours on a semester system). The decision to make part-time students eligible is an option of the local chapter and should be addressed in each chapter's bylaws. International students attending college outside their home countries are eligible for membership if they have completed at least 12 hours of associate degree course work and have met the required cumulative grade point average.
  • You must generally have a grade point average of 3.5.
    • A chapter may raise eligibility standards as long as they are in accordance with the Society's Constitution.
  • You must receive an invitation to membership from the chapter at the college where presently enrolled.
  • You must adhere to the moral standards of the society.
      • A person currently incarcerated is ineligible for membership. An individual convicted of a felony, or any crime whose potential sentence is greater than one year, may be considered for membership three years following completion of all conditions of sentencing, including probation.
