Residency of US Veterans and Beneficiaries

Mississippi Senate Bill 2127 (amends state law 37-107-25) for nonresident students who are United States Veterans and/or their beneficiaries who are entitled to Veterans Educational Assistance under Title 38 of the United States Code are qualified as in-state residents for tuition purpose upon enrollment at MCC.
Nonresident Veterans (whether or not entitled to Educational Assistance under Title 38 of the United States Code) must demonstrate release or discharge from active duty with not less than an Honorable discharge or a discharged under Honorable conditions. Nonresident beneficiaries must demonstrate a valid Transfer of Entitlement (TOE) for Veterans Educational Assistance under Title 38 of the United States Code.

Residency of Military Personnel and Dependents:

Military personnel and their dependents assigned to active duty in Mississippi will be considered state residents for the purpose of attending MCC. Should the parent be assigned to overseas duty, the dependents will continue to be classified as Mississippi residents until such time as the parent is reassigned. Residential Status of Military Personnel and Dependents Members of the
armed forces on extended active duty and stationed within the State of Mississippi may be classified as residents for the purpose of attending state-supported institutions of higher learning or community colleges of the State of Mississippi. Residential status of such military personnel who are not legal residents of Mississippi (as defined above) shall terminate upon their reassignment for duty in the continental United States outside the State of Mississippi. Residential status of children of members of the armed forces on extended active duty shall be that of the military parent for the purpose of attending state-supported institutions of higher learning or community colleges of the State of Mississippi during the time that their military parents are stationed within Mississippi. This residency status shall be continued through the time that the military parents are stationed in an overseas area with last duty assignment within Mississippi, excepting temporary training assignments. A military person on active duty stationed in Mississippi who wishes to claim in-state residential status must submit a certificate from the military showing the name of the military member; the name of the dependent, if for a dependent; the name of the organization of assignment and its address. The military member must be on active duty stationed in Mississippi on the date of registration of MCC. The certificate must include the signature of the commanding officer, the adjutant, or the personnel officer of the unit of assignment with signer’s rank and title. The certificate must be presented to the Office of Admissions at (or within 10 days before) registration each semester for the in-state certificate to be effective.
