NASA Lecture set for Sept. 20

Bringing “Reflections of the Universe” to focus, Edwin Faughn, managing director of the Rainwater Observatory, will present a lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. in the McCain Theater on the Meridian Community College campus.

The lecture is funded by the Mississippi NASA Space Grant Consortium and is open and free to the public.

For the past 25 years Faughn developed the "Reflections of the Universe" talk that focuses on the beauty and vastness of the heavens. His presentation is illustrated with numerous paintings by Faughn that have been featured in and on the covers of leading international space science magazines, books, exhibitions and planetarium productions such as Scientific American magazine and the world premiere of Titantic: The Exhibition. It also contains some of the latest discoveries in the field of space science.

Faughn served as art director for the Sharpe Planetarium of the Pink Place Family of Museum in Memphis, Tenn., where he produced original scientific related artwork, cartoon characters and animation for numerous space, science, laser light and children’s planetarium productions. Many of these and other original productions featuring his work such as Saving the Night have been seen in planetariums around the world.

The Sept. 20 program is geared for people of all ages and generally runs about 45 minutes.
