MCC Jazz Band 30th Anniversary

carey smith with studentJazz great Ella Fitzgerald once sang, “It Don’t Mean A Thing, If It Ain’t Got That Swing.”

Carey Smith, MCC Jazz Band director, can rephrase that title in his next endeavor of searching for former members of the Jazz Band for the group’s 30th anniversary with “It Don’t Mean A Thing If Everybody Ain’t There.”

That concert is set for Thursday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. in the McCain Theater.

“I’ve contacted some, but I need more folks,” Smith said. Even if the former members are no longer playing music, Smith said he wants to recognize those individuals for their MCC Jazz Band contributions.

Seven former members have contacted Smith and will be there, he said. But he’s looking for more Jazz Band folks.

Here is a roster of the players from the last 30 years of the Jazz Band and the number of concerts they have played with the band. If you know of any of the individuals, please contact Smith at MCC at 601-484-8637 or email him at csmith@meridiancc.edu
