Voices of Hope

“Voices of Hope” will be the theme for the Dec. 1 concert featuring Meridian Community College’s musical ensembles, Dimensions and the MCC Chorus.

The concert, which is an Arts & Letters Series production, will begin at 7 p.m. in the College’s McCain Theater. Admission is free.

Contemporary choral literature will be on the bill as the 42-voice choir of the MCC Chorus and the vocal show group Dimensions perform. Co-choral directors Tammy Miles and Twyla Hurst said the evening will also feature familiar Christmas music presented in the traditional a capella caroling style.

“Come and enjoy being surrounded by voices ringing out the sounds of the season. The ‘Voices of Hope’ theme will be carried out through uplifting compositions such as ‘One Voice’ ‘The Awakening’ and ‘Prayer of the Children,’” Hurst said. The Wizard of Oz’s Dorothy, freshman choir member Lauren Rogers, will delight the audience with “Over the Rainbow.” MCC vocal majors, Andrew Towner and Megan Mowdy will sing Olive Dungan’s “Eternal Life (Prayer of St. Francis)”and “Gesu Bambino” by Pietro A.Yon

After a brief intermission, “Dimensions will take the stage offering 40 minutes of impressive vocals, a dynamic live band, and high energy dance complete with solos, costume changes, lighting effects and music that is sure to get you on your feet and dancing in the aisles. You don’t want to miss this group featuring 18 MCC students and four members of the MCC music faculty,” Hurst added.
