Meridian Community College student Chase Trayal brought home the gold when he and seven other MCC students competed in the Skills USA National Conference and Competition in Kansas City, Mo.

“All eight students placed in the top 10 in the nation and five of those placed in the top three. I think that says a lot about the educational opportunities here in Meridian,” said Olin Thomas, MCC Construction Trades Program coordinator and SkillsUSA adviser at the College.

Earlier this year Tryal won first for cabinetmaking at the state level in SkillsUSA.

Bringing back the bronze were Team Works team members John Baranello, Grady Chandler, Trey Tanner and Johnny Crawford.

Additional national winners were Franklin Pugh, sheet metal, sixth place; Thomas Vann, CPR First Aid. Cody Bryant won ninth place in the related technical math division.

“We appreciate the great job these students did representing Meridian Community College,” said Olin Thomas, Construction Trades Program coordinator and instructor.

Other MCC advisers attending the convention were Walter Hammack, electronics instructor; and Jerry Humphreys, industrial maintenance instructor.
