Write the equation for the line that passes through the points (-8, 3) and (4, 7).

y – y1 = m ( x – x1 )

y – 7 = 1/3 ( x – 4 )

y – 7 = 1/3 x – 4/3

3y – 21 = x – 4

3y = x + 17

y = 1/3 x + 17/3

Use the slope m = 1/3 and one of the given points.

y = 1/3 x + 17/3

or

x – 3y = -17
