This degree will prepare you for an exciting and diverse career in the healthcare field.  Some areas of employment are diagnostic and procedural coding for all healthcare facilities, performance improvement, medical staff credentialing, cancer registries, health information management, electronic health records, and documentation improvement programs. 

The HIM field is rapidly growing.  The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts employment in this field to grow much faster than the average.  With the new technology approaching regarding electronic health records and the implementation of ICD-10 the job market is expected to explode over the next 5 years creating a 20% increase in employment.  Click for statistics. 

The HIT field is ideal for individuals who would like a career in the healthcare arena, but are not interested in hands on patient care.  There are also opportunities for travel jobs in the field along with the option to work from home.  The medical world depends on credentialed Health Information Technicians to collect, interpret, analyze, protect, and organize medical information so that is may be used for continuity of care, reimbursement, and quality improvement.  We are a vital part of the healthcare world.
