Girls rule: MCC vocal group brings classics, today’s tunes to stage

It's girl power for the Meridian Community College vocal ensemble Dimensions.

This high-energy show group performs for events and concerts throughout the academic year with MCC Music Instructor and Choral Director Tammy Miles directing the ensemble.

“This is the first year we have had an “all-girl” group,” Miles said. To make the most of this year’s troupe, the Dimensions' will perform ‘80s songs such as “Let’s Hear It for The Boy,” “We’ve Got The Beat,” “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Express Yourself.

But that’s not all. The Dimensions will sing contemporary arrangements including “Call Your Girlfriend” and “Red.”

From the golden age of Motown to the 1990s classic and 00s favorites, girl groups continue to shape the music landscape.

Included in this year’s Dimensions are Anna Grace Banks of Collinsville; Katilyn Mowdy of Hickory; Grace Brown of Meridian, sopranos; Jasmine Jordan of Meridian, Mattie Heiser of Meridian, Morgan Inshetski of Meridian, second sopranos; Kahia Buckley of Meridian; Jade Prestage of Collinsville and Haley Secrist of Meridian, altos; Kyra Howell of Collinsville, drums, and Dani Colenberg of Meridian, synthesizer.

The group rehearses for more than five hours a week, so their routine is pitch-perfect.
