Clinic offers young musicians band aid

Nearly 140 local and area middle and high school students are fine-tuning their talents now through Saturday at Meridian Community College’s Lauderdale County Honor Band Clinic.

Jon Romero, director of bands at MCC, said this is the fourth year for the College to host this learn-by-doing session which culminates in a concert on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. in the McCain Theater on the MCC campus. Admission to the concert is free.

The event was created to give more Lauderdale County students the opportunity to participate in a clinic that offers music-making and learning skills such as this. “They get to play some really great literature,” Romero added.

Romero will be leading the 71 high school students; Anna Girling, band director at Clarkdale Middle School, is conducting the 64-member middle school group.
