Chris Rayborn
Coach
Rayborn is entering his second season as an assistant at MCC.
As a former Eagle himself, Chris has a tremendous passion and desire
for Meridian Community College as a whole. Chris assists Head
Coach, Chris Rose, with pitchers and serves as the recruiting
coordinator. His tireless effort to bring in the best talent
possible has yielded a high dividend. The Eagles incoming freshman
class is a compilation of the outstanding players from MS, LA, AL,
GA, and MO. When asked how he feels about the 2009 season
Coach Rayborn said:
"They (2009 team) are good students, excellent
baseball players, and more importantly they are solid people.
This team was put together to, with tremendous work, have a chance
to play in Grand Junction (NJCAA World Series) for the eighth time."
Chris Rayborn - MCC Assistant Coach
“Coach
Rayborn did an outstanding job with the pitching staff last season
and played a large part in reloading our team with a solid freshman
class for 2009. He is a high energy guy and very emotional
about his business. He has a knack for seeing and remembering
players names that is invaluable to the recruiting process. Rayborn wakes up everyday thinking about Grand Junction, the great
experience it was for him and his MCC teammates, and wants that
passionately for our current players.”
Coach Rose -
MCC Head Coach
For Rayborn, a
graduate of Adams County Christian High School, returning to MCC is a
homecoming. A native of Natchez, Miss, Rayborn was an All-American
pitcher for the Eagles in 2004, helping guide MCC to their last
back-to-back trips to the Div. 1 Junior College World Series in
Grand Junction, CO. in 2003 & 2004.
Rayborn comes
back to MCC following his playing career in professional baseball.
After his sophomore season at MCC, Rayborn signed a pro ball
contract with the San Diego Padres organization. He spent time in
Phoenix, AZ, Eugene, OR, and Ft. Wayne, IN playing baseball in the
minor leagues. He led the Arizona Rookie league in ERA and innings
pitched.
Prior to his
stint professional baseball, Rayborn had a very decorated
pitching career at MCC. He was a consensus All American, named to
Baseball America’s
first team All America squad, he was also an All State and All
Region selection for MCC. He ranks in MCC’s top three for most
strikeouts among Eagle pitchers with 156 career K’s. He had 19
career wins for MCC in his two years on the mound, going 9-2 his
sophomore season and 10-3 his freshman season, which included a win
in the 2003 Juco World Series.
